snow day x 3 = fun...

We got word of a potential "snowmegeddon" (thanks for the word...Lisa :-)) coming to our town on Saturday of last week.

More often, we look at the local meteorologists with amusement at all the fun they're having "guessing" the weather...and never really take them seriously. But, the National Weather Service got involved in this one three days in advance...so that had us taking note and planning.

The day before S-Day...Jeff finally broke down and got himself the long-awaited snow blower he wanted.

And...I...headed to the grocery store for  a few things we needed. I wouldn't call it "rations"...but it appeared that everyone else at the store was stocking up like a bear before winter's hibernation. I saw later that the store sold out of lettuce. It's nice to know that when potential disaster is upon us...people are going for lettuce as apposed to Cheetos. And...really...if I think about it...I could have waited two days for a grocery trip. But, maybe we're just wired to stock up for emergencies...regardless of time frame.

Anywho...sure enough...the storm came as predicted. All night long, the wind blew and the sky spewed snow. We awoke Wednesday to a blanket of nearly 20 inches of snow. The weather folks were just beaming through the tv screen...they had got it right!

The kids were ready to run amok in the stuff and Jeff couldn't wait to push the new snow blower to the limit. It was a race to see who could get snow gear on first. The snow was still blowing sideways, so I snapped some pictures from inside the front window...

Below, Lauren is having a great time standing in the stream of snow Jeff is blowing off the driveway. I don't think this kiddo would've endured an upbringing in Florida, like I did. She is clearly half polar bear.

 Oh...happy day.

Sarah and Julia are just as snow-loving as she is! Below, they are laying atop the snow while more comes down all around them. Lauren is clearly off to join the fun.

 Julia had a tough time walking in the snow. She got stuck a few times.

 Sarah would often come to her rescue.

 The wind was gusting up to 40mph. It wasn't long after this picture, that Julia headed inside.

It was harder to convince these two to come inside. Below, they are building a tunnel...and from the looks of their hats, they used their heads to dig it out.

 The next day was another snow day. After all...it takes time to plow feet of snow off every city road! Lauren had homework to get done before heading back to school, so while she did that, Sarah and Julia headed out for another day in the snow.

 Still...with the funny faces. Love it.

 I do tend to worry about Sarah climbing this tree, but the concern is less when the tree is 2 feet closer to the ground and the fall is onto a pillow.

Today brought the third snow day in a row. Apparently some folks aren't getting to the work of shoveling sidewalks and they have concern over kids walking city streets to get to school. Regardless of how lame that excuse may be, nobody here is complaining.

We're having a good ol' time hibernatin'. We ain't needin' no lernin'.
